Playstation Blackout

Alienated | Performance Art · Kelly Vanneste

Born in a bar

Playstation Blackout began as a site-specific experiment: Noah and choreographer Kelly Vanneste, brought together by an interdisciplinary project between the circus and contemporary dance departments of their art school, were assigned a bar — a bar that happened to contain two large referee chairs. Kelly was already fascinated by the presence of oversized objects in space. The chairs stayed; the piece grew around them.

Two performers find their way through a world of pressure and expectation — a playing field where every mistake can mean your downfall, and the search for the finish line never quite ends. They move around, above, and under the two unstable chairs: structures meant to uphold the rules that keep tipping over. Raw, physical, and unapologetically intense, the piece asks: what are the rules, who made them, and what happens when you cross them?

The duet toured festivals across the Netherlands from 2018 to 2021, alongside repeated runs in the bar where it was born.
